An Initial Investigation into the Relationship between the Designer's Personality and the Creative Design Process

This article aims at understanding the designer’s creative personality with the aid of psychometric evaluation. The investigation suggested that introverted designers tend to experience higher levels of creativity than designers who have an extroverted personality. The business environment could benefit from assessing designers’ personality and tailoring job descriptions accordingly, to the advantage of both the company and the individual.

For her first degree, the author studied at the Babes Bolyai University-Romania graduating with the equivalent of a distinction in business administration. Her dissertation considered the customer profile in tourism, which reflected on the importance of branding. The proposed paper represents the culmination of her Master’s studies at De Montfort University Leicester UK, where she recently graduated with a MA in Design Management. The study explored the development of a "creativity tool" to assist designers and clients to more effectively engage in the design process. As an initial study it challenged some preconceptions about the personality profile of the creative practitioner and consequently engaged in a debate about the nature of the creative process. Alis Iacob has also an extensive professional background in fine arts. While remaining a surrealism art lover, she developed a special interest in graphic design and 3D modeling.
