The purposes of this International Exchange Design Project (IEDP) is to institute (1) the development of an exchange design project through virtual conference between students in the two programs and (2) expose students to both the global design issues and the international design market. The objectives of IEDP will be (1) to provide an enriching international experience for students and faculty through a design project, (2) to enhance students’ international perspectives, and (3) to develop a greater understanding of cultural differences. The IEDP will bring a global perspective into the interior design curriculum. The project will create an international environment that focuses on interaction between students and faculty at both schools. The project may serve as a model for other classes and programs that desire to integrate an international experience into their curriculum at a reasonable cost. Addressing the issue of international projects is a critical task that must be accomplished now for future interior designers. Students will understand the global interior design market, metric scale perception, and multicultural design issues. This project offers not only an exploration of the present design issues which are globalization and the multicultural experience but also an exchange of design ideas with interior design students from another country.
